Third Conference on Language Contact

in Times of Globalization

In cooperation with the University of Groningen, the Chair of English linguistics at the University of Greifswald is glad to host the

Third Conference on Language Contact
in Times of Globalization

during the year of the 555th anniversary of the University of Greifswald. This third conference continues the tradition of the LCTG1 and LCTG2 conferences held in Groningen, the Netherlands, in 2006 and 2009.

We would like to invite contributions (of 20 mins + 5-10 mins for discussion) from all philologies with a focus on language contact in real-life settings, the media and multilingual institutions. We propose the following thematic fields:

  1. (1)Contact-induced change: from language mixing to mixed languages;

  2. (2)Language use, language politics and language conflicts in multilingual settings;

  3. (3)The creative potential of language contact and multilingual speech.

Apart from that, there will be a panel on Meta-discourse on language contact and globalization organized by Jürgen Spitzmüller (University of Zürich) and Sprios Moschonas (University of Athens) on 30 June 2011.

To facilitate interdisciplinary discussion the conference language will be English.

This continuously updated website will provide you with more information on the format of the conference, the City of Greifswald and accommodation.

We are looking forward to meeting you! Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any further questions.

On behalf of the conference organizers,

Amei Koll-Stobbe
